Historical evolution

Jianzhang palace was built in the first year of Taichu period of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty (104 B.C.), which was the main palace of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty thought that Weiyang palace was too narrow, so he built a large-scale Jianzhang Palace on the west side of Chang'an City in 104 BC. As the main building, the front hall of Zhanggong became The Place for Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty to hold court meetings and deal with government affairs for a long time.

The front hall of Jianzhang palace was actually used as the imperial palace of the Han Dynasty. The management of the palace city, the setup of the officials and the layout of the city are all similar to the palace Weiyang palace. The main buildings in the palace are the front hall, Qihua palace, Shenming platform, etc.

At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Jianzhang palace was destroyed.

architectural composition

According to the layout of Jianzhang palace, a central axis is formed from the round palace, jade hall, Jianzhang front hall and Tianliang palace. Other palaces are distributed on the left and right, all surrounded by attic roads. The northern part of the palace city is Taiye pool, with Sanshen mountain built. The western part of the palace city is Tang Zhongting and Tang Zhongchi. There are multiple gates and que on the central axis. The main gate is called Kaihe, also known as bimen. It's 15 feet high, and it's a Chengguan style building. After that, the jade hall was built. There are copper Phoenix on the roof, five feet high, decorated with gold, and a pivot under it, which can rotate with the wind. In the north of bimen, starting from yuanque, 15 Zhang high, there is another fengque on the left and Jinggan building on the right. Enter the gate of yuanque for 200 steps, and finally arrive at Jianzhang front hall, which is built on the high platform. It is magnificent. There are also many different combinations of palace buildings in the palace city. There are gods in the west of bimen. The platform is fifty feet high. There are copper immortals holding copper plates and jade cups to receive rain and dew.

In the north of the palace is the Taiye pool. The water is bright and the mountains are beautiful. It is the first place to open the natural landscape palace of later generations

Remains of cultural relics

The existing remains on the ground are mainly rammed earth platform foundations such as the front hall, and the underground remains are mostly overlapped by farmland and some urban buildings. The ruins of Jianzhang palace front hall, shenmingtai site and shuangfengque site are the remains of palace buildings on the ground of Jianzhang palace.

The site of Jianzhang Palace's front hall is located in the north of gaobaozi village in the western suburb. According to the archaeological survey data carried out in the 1980s, the front hall base is 320 meters long from the north to the South and 200 meters wide from the east to the west, of which the north is more than 10 meters above the ground.

Protection of cultural relics

On May 31, 1957, the site of Jianzhang palace front hall was announced as the second batch of cultural relics protection units by Shaanxi Provincial People's Committee. On May 3, 2013, jianzhanggong site was announced as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. Nevertheless, the current situation of the site is worrying.

With the rapid development of the nearby villages, the rammed earth in the front hall of Jianzhang palace began to be nibbled bit by bit. First, they took soil at will, and then they built houses on the ruins of the front hall. In the words of the local villagers, no one managed them all the time. The villagers were used to it. In 2013, it was reported that there was a temple and several factories built on the ruins of the front hall of Zhanggong, including plastic factory, woven bag factory and coal yard In 2015, there was another media report: the temple has not been removed.
