After they found out The Hills would not be renewed earlier this year, Heidi and Spencer concocted a plan to get attention by divorcing shortly after their anniversary. The reality duo tell Life & Style there was interest in a series covering their split from British TV network ITV, so they splashed down cash to move their act to Costa Rica. But that deal fell through and soon after, they called off the divorce proceedings and reunited.
“The divorce was real — just the idea behind it was different than most people’s,” Spencer tells Life & Style. “Divorcing was the only way to keep Heidi’s career going because everyone hated me so much. Look at Sandra Bullock — her divorce from Jesse James was the best thing to happen to her image.”
Now, they worry how they’ll ever get themselves out of the cash crisis. “I can’t make regular money because I was playing such an unlikeable character on TV to keep my checks coming. Who wants to hire the jerk from The Hills?”

Spencer contacted us with more details. He claims he and Heidi, “Accidentally happened upon the event, and immediately asked how we could participate. We would’ve loved to walk, but unfortunately Heidi’s surgeries prevented that.” Instead, Spencer says they bought “gear” to donate to the cause.
Spencer also corrected his rep’s statement — saying it’s not a friend who had breast cancer … he says, “My nana is in the hospital battling cancer right now — so it’s a cause that’s extremely personal to me.” Spencer says it’s offensive for anyone to suggest this was just a “photo opportunity.”

Pratt said Monday that Montag stood by him during what he called the “wildest day ever of either of our lives.” He says that sparked hope that she might drop her divorce filing. He and Montag were back in Los Angeles after Saturday’s incident.
Police in San Jose, Costa Rica, said the couple were briefly detained at the airport for illegal arms possession after security officers found two unloaded handguns in their luggage. Police say Pratt and Montag hadn’t declared the weapons and lacked permits to have them in Costa Rica.

“As part of my spiritual cleansing I’ve spent the last week living alone in the jungle, reflecting on my past transgressions, and working to become a better person. I had to live off the land, and hunt to survive. As I departed the country this morning to continue my spiritual journey, I mistakenly brought my hunting weapons to the airport. It was an honest mistake, and they sent me on my way.”

Divorce can be a trying, draining, and emotionally devastating experience for all involved. Despite these hardships, most individuals manage to conduct themselves with dignity and maturity. I did not – I failed spectacularly.
“I horribly embarrassed the one person that meant the world to me. For my outrageous and infantile behavior, I offer Heidi my most sincere apologies.
“Over the years, her love, support, and friendship were always given, but never properly cherished. I let her down. She never deserved the pain and anguish I put her through, and although I don’t expect it, I hope in time she’ll be able to forgive me.
“Even though our relationship has changed, I will always count her among my best friends.”

We’re told Heidi has agreed to listen to Vivid Entertainment honcho Steve Hirsch when he arrives in Costa Rica to make an offer on the footage … some of which is said to contain girl-on-girl action with Playboy Playmate Karissa Shannon.
We’re told Heidi wants Hirsch to provide her with the sales numbers on Kim Kardashian’s sex tape — which was also released through Vivid — because Heidi may be interested in working out a “back-end deal” if Steve can’t offer enough cash up front to satisfy Montag.

Sources say it was then that Spencer decided he could make a fortune selling his “library” to Vivid Entertainment — much of it featuring naked, fornicating Speidi.
We could not reach Heidi and her reps were mum.
As for Karissa Shannon — she tells us such a tape does indeed exist, but she’s not convinced Spencer really has it. Karissa says if the tape ever sees the light of day, she’ll sue the pants off him.

Spencer tells us Heidi knew since they met four years ago that all he wanted was to become famous … and nothing will stand in his way now. According to Spencer, Heidi is “freaking out because she doesn’t want to do reality TV anymore.”
Pratt says they have been saying in separate hotel rooms and they have been having ongoing, semi-hysterical discussions — in which Spencer has demanded that Heidi tear up the divorce papers and do a revealing reality show on why she needs to get away from him.
As Spencer puts it, “You cannot turn off the Speidi machine.”
Spencer is very clear … he will release a flurry of sex tapes if she does not agree. Spencer added, “I am a wild sexual freak and I love sex.”

“I love Heidi but our marriage was a show – it was part of The Hills world,” Pratt said Friday. “And that world is on a sound stage.”
